Queenslanders Brace for Severe Weather Conditions on Christmas Day Dec 25,2023·8:47AM GMTZ
QUEENSLAND, Australia - As Christmas Day approaches, residents in Queensland are preparing for potentially severe weather conditions, including large hailstones, heavy rain, and the possibility of flash flooding. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of the southern interior and north of the state.

Areas such as Darling Downs, Granite Belt, and parts of Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders are on high alert for damaging winds, large hailstones, and heavy rainfall. These conditions are the result of a deepening surface trough and a broad upper trough.

While the state is still dealing with the aftermath of ex-tropical cyclone Jasper and ongoing flooding, Deputy Premier Cameron Dick has urged travelers to visit the region, assuring them that the cleanup efforts are underway. However, he also advised following directions from emergency personnel to ensure safety.

As part of the recovery efforts, over 4,200 property damage assessments have been completed so far, with 12 homes confirmed destroyed and numerous others severely or moderately damaged. The government is working diligently to assist those affected by the recent severe weather events.

Residents across Queensland are advised to stay vigilant, monitor weather updates, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this holiday season.
