COLORADO - The North American Aerospace Defense Command (Norad) is once again tracking Santa Claus as he embarks on his annual journey to deliver presents to children around the world. This long-standing tradition began in 1955 when a phone number mix-up led children to call Norad instead of Santa's workshop.
Colonel Harry Shoup, the director of Norad's predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (Conad) at the time, decided to answer the calls and provide the children with Santa's location. From that moment on, Norad's tracking of Santa became an annual event, spreading joy and excitement to millions of children.
Using state-of-the-art technology, including satellites, radar, high-speed fighter jets, and Santa cams, Norad is able to monitor Santa's progress throughout his journey. The tracking starts as soon as Santa leaves the North Pole and continues until he has delivered all his presents and returns home.
To keep parents and children informed, Norad provides real-time updates on Santa's location through its Norad Tracks Santa website. The website also offers holiday-themed games, music, and other fun activities in eight different languages. Additionally, the Norad Tracks Santa website can be accessed on mobile devices, allowing for easy tracking while on the go.
The tracking of Santa by Norad has become a beloved tradition that captures the imagination of children and adults alike. It serves as a reminder of the magic and joy of Christmas and brings people from all around the world together in the spirit of the holiday season.
